Dr. Chen is a Northern Gulf institute Research Scientist at NOAA/AOML's Hurricane Research Division (HRD) in Miami, FL. His work focuses on dynamic and thermodynamic processes related to tropical cyclone intensity and structural changes, with special attention to boundary-layer processes and air-sea interactions. His research utilizes a combination of observations and numerical simulations (including large-eddy simulations) to improve the understanding and modeling of boundary-layer processes in high-impact weather systems. His recent research developed a novel framework to evaluate and improve PBL schemes in hurricane conditions.
