Geologic Phosphate Deposits Are a Large Source of Phosphorus to Many Estuaries along the South Atlantic and Gulf Coasts - USGS Findings
March 11, 2011
New USGS findings released in the Journal of the American Water Resources Association, provides an estimate of natural and human sources of phosphorus delivered to major estuaries, bays, and sounds along the South Atlantic and Gulf Coasts.
Because nutrients can originate from a variety of sources, understanding the distribution and magnitude of phosphorus sources delivered to estuaries is crucial in developing attainable nutrient reduction strategies.
